About Us

We were originally constituted in 1869 under the name of Highland United Baptist Church. From 1869 until 1884, meetings and services were held in a building which served the two-fold purpose of Highland Church and School. The location of the original meeting house was about one mile north of the present location.

On March 11, 1884, the church bought a one-acre tract of land, built a new sanctuary and changed the name to New Highland. This building was used for worship for 72 years, until 1956. During this time, the church was able to purchase additional land, some of which was used for its cemetery. The current church building was built in 1956.

We have received God’s love and want to share that love with our community. Calling ourselves a small church with a big heart illustrates that desire. It is who we are and what we do.
