Salvation

No one is good enough to get to Heaven on his or her own. Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” All of us have sinned and done things that displease God. No one is innocent.

Romans 6:23b tells the consequences of our sin, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” This is not physical death, but spiritual death. It is spending eternity separated from God.

The good news follows this declaration of sin’s consequences in Romans 6:23, “But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 5:8 adds, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Jesus died in our place and paid the price for our sins. By rising from the dead, Jesus proves that God accepted Jesus’ death as the payment for our sins and that we will have eternal life with God.

Romans 10:9 tells what we must do to accept Jesus as Savior, “That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Believing that Jesus died in your place and giving Him authority in your life as Lord is how you can receive everlasting life. Romans 10:13 reinforces this, “for everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Jesus paid the debt for our sin. Trusting in Him and accepting His death in our place grants us salvation.

The results of salvation are found in Romans 5:1, “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Jesus Christ provides the way to have a relationship with God. Romans 8:1 says, “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Accepting Jesus as Lord and savior means that we will not be subject to condemnation for our sins. In Romans 8:38-39, we see how strong this promise is, “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
